We had a conversation with Çağatay “DESPE” Sedef at the ESL Pro League Finals in Dallas. Turkish player has been an important part of the Space Soldiers team since its foundation. We talked about his stand-in situation, ESL ban, and his goals.

The last time you played with Space Soldiers in an offline tournament was WESG EU Qualifiers. Since then, what were you up to?

I have a school that I’ve been attending. It’s not like I don’t play CS anymore, I do, but I don’t get to do personal training as much as I want. The attendance is important at my school. So, since then, I’ve been going to school, trying to practice as much as possible. I couldn’t follow the team practices. That’s it, not so many different things in my life right now. I can say I’m focusing on my school.

Space Soldiers came here with you. I’m guessing you guys didn’t have a chance to practice together. It wasn’t the ideal situation. What do you think about your performance?

They told me that I’m going in the last day. It wasn’t certain if Calyx would get his visa on time or not. When he couldn’t, I got my tickets and came here. I must say I never practiced with the team before that, not even a single map. When we arrived here, we scrimmed against Na’Vi twice, Mirage ve Inferno. In terms of role, I had to do what Calyx was doing. I tried my best. In terms of goal, my goal was to play the playoffs here. It would be great and I thought we could do it. But we didn’t have much time to practice, also I didn’t by myself either. That’s why I don’t see our result as disappointing. It was ok.

ESL ban… What happened? There was no announcement.

Let me tell you what happened. I was hanging out at our gaming house, with everyone. I saw on the news that I got banned. I’ve never used ESL Wire for 2 years, the last time I used was 2016 or something. We investigated it how it is possible. We talked to ESL Head Admin. They said that my account was matched with another account somehow. When that account got banned, I also got banned automatically. Total bad luck and coincidence.

What’re your plans for the future? Do you see yourself in a team rather than Space Soldiers or will you do something related to your education in the future?

First of all, I’m not thinking about retiring. I will go as far as I can with my friends. I didn’t think about anything else or playing with anyone rather than my friends. About the future, nothing is planned yet but like I said, if I’m given the chance, I’d want to play for Space Soldiers again.
